1. Rights

Students have the right to know which aid programs are available to them.

Students have the right to know the basis for aid decisions, including the resources considered in the aid calculation.

Students have the right to an explanation of the aid awarded them, including which portion must be repaid and which portion is grant aid.

Students have the right to be informed about the loans made to them, including the interest rate, the amount to be repaid, the payback procedures, and the repayment time period.

Students have the right to appeal a financial aid decision to the director of financial aid. All appeals must be made in writing.

2. Responsibilities

Students are required to submit the necessary aid application materials by the established deadlines and to respond to requests from the Office of Financial Aid in a timely manner.

Students are required to submit honest and accurate information on their financial aid applications.

Students are required to certify that funds they receive from student financial aid programs will be used only for expenses related to their attendance at Bucknell.

Students are required to make satisfactory progress toward the completion of their degrees, as defined by the academic deans, in order to continue to receive financial assistance.

Students are required to notify the Office of Financial Aid if their enrollment status changes or if they receive grant assistance from a source other than the university.

Students are required to notify the Office of Financial Aid if there is a change in their family status or income from that which was described on the CSS PROFILE, Bucknell aid application, or FAFSA. The university reserves the right to adjust aid eligibility based on this information.

Students are required to sign statements prepared by the federal government as a condition for receiving aid. These statements include:

  • Statement of updated information.
  • Statement of registration status.
  • Statement of educational purpose.
  • Certification statement on refunds and default.
