The Bucknell
Wilderness Experience (BuckWild) is a dynamic outdoor pre-orientation
program held at the Great Hollow Wilderness School in New Fairfield,
CT, August 12-17, 2006. This activity is sponsored by the Office
of the Deans of Students, and is optional for incoming first-year
students.
At BuckWild you will have an invigorating experience that will not
only introduce you to some of your new classmates, but will teach
you about yourself and others. The major activities of BuckWild
will vary for individual groups and range from hiking to technical
rock-climbing to caving. The Appalachian Trail, St. John’s
Ledges, the Housatonic River, Candlewood Lake, and the 1,000 acres
of GHWS will provide the beautiful sylvan setting for your first
Bucknell experience. Activities may vary depending upon the number
of program participants, staff and equipment, and logistical considerations.
Through BuckWild you will have the opportunity to share, trust,
solve problems, communicate, cooperate, and persevere through a
memorable experience. You need not be an athlete or an avid outdoorsperson
to participate.
The program begins with arrival on campus Saturday, August 12, 2006
between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. when keys will be available for you
to move into your residence hall room. Participants depart for BuckWild
on Sunday, August 13 and return to Bucknell Thursday, August 17
before beginning New Student Orientation on August 18.
More detailed information, including medical forms, clothing and
equipment needs, and move-in details will be provided once participants
have signed up for the program. The cost of the program is $575
inclusive of on-campus meals before departure and upon return, as
well as round-trip transportation to GHWS and all program expenses.
To reserve a spot, fill out the registration
form and return it with your check to the address on the form.
The deadline is July 7, 2006.
