Outside Scholarships
Students interested in military training should contact the Military
Science Department, Spratt House, Bucknell University, Lewisburg,
PA 17837, telephone: 570-577-1246. U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training
Corps (ROTC) scholarships covering tuition, fees, and books are
available on a competitive basis for a period of two, three, or
four years.
Finally, students with access to the Internet can use a scholarship
search program called FastWEB, which is located on the Financial
Aid Information Page endorsed by the National Association of Student
Financial Aid Administrators. The URL address for this page is:

Policies and Procedures
If a student anticipates receiving funds from any source outside
the university, s/he must notify the Office of Financial Aid in
writing within two weeks of the receipt of such assistance, or risk
reducing any Bucknell scholarship component of a financial aid award
on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
By law, all resources must be considered in awarding governmental
financial aid. Please note that state and/or federal financial aid
may be affected by the receipt of outside scholarships.
Bucknell's institutional gift aid policy usually permits a student
to receive the full benefit of an outside award. Typically the university
will reduce a student's loan offering, the employment eligibility,
and/or the family contribution by the full amount of the outside
scholarship, until such time that the student receives gift (grant/scholarship)
aid that equals the billed cost of attendance at the university.
Exceptions to this policy follow:
Students whose total gift aid (grants/scholarship) is in excess
of the billed costs of the university will experience a dollar-for-dollar
reduction of Bucknell University scholarship.
Governmental awards from state or federal sources (including ROTC),
as well as tuition subsidies based on parents' employment (tuition
grant, tuition remission, tuition exchange) are not covered by the
Bucknell gift aid policy; all monies from these sources of funding
reduce Bucknell scholarship on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
If a student receives less scholarship/grant assistance from a
non-university source than was estimated on his/her initial university
financial aid award, s/he may request a review of the award. However,
university financial assistance will not be increased to compensate
for outside aid for which the student does not properly apply. Our
ability to compensate for a decrease in an outside award will depend
upon the availability of university financial aid funds.
Non-need based educational loans, such as PLUS or the Unsubsidized
Stafford may be used to offset the expected family contribution,
and, to the extent of that offset, should not affect a financial
aid award.
