SPECIES Neotoma (Neotoma) nelsoni

Author:Goldman, 1905.
Citation:Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash., 18: 29.
Common Name:Nelson’s Woodrat
Type Locality:México, Veracruz, Perote, 7800 ft (2377 m).
Distribution:Known only from the type locality.
Status:IUCN – Endangered.
Comments:Subgenus Neotoma. Affiliated with N. albigula but stature as a separate species uncertain (see Hall and Genoways, 1970). The removal, as N . leucodon, of southern populations formerly associated with albigula necessitates reevalution of the status of nelsoni and its affinity with repect to the floridana and micropus species groups (see Edwards and Bradley, 2002b).
