SPECIES Neotoma (Neotoma) nelsoni
Author: | Goldman, 1905. | Citation: | Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash., 18: 29. | Common Name: | Nelson’s Woodrat | Type Locality: | México, Veracruz, Perote, 7800 ft (2377 m). | Distribution: | Known only from the type locality. | Status: | IUCN – Endangered. | Comments: | Subgenus Neotoma. Affiliated with N. albigula but stature as a separate species uncertain (see Hall and Genoways, 1970). The removal, as N . leucodon, of southern populations formerly associated with albigula necessitates reevalution of the status of nelsoni and its affinity with repect to the floridana and micropus species groups (see Edwards and Bradley, 2002b). |
