SPECIES Ctenomys boliviensis

Common Name:Bolivian Tuco-tuco
Type Locality:Bolivia, Santa Cruz Dept., Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
Distribution:Santa Cruz Dept. (C Bolivia), Mato Grosso (SW Brazil), W Paraguay, and Formosa Prov., Argentina.
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (nt) as C. nattereri, Lower Risk (lc) as C. boliviensis.
Comments:Several different karyotypes have been reported including 2n=36, FN=64; 2n=42, FN=64 and 2n=44-45, FN=68 (Anderson et al., 1987). Anderson et al. (1987) suggested that three or more cryptic species with different karyotypes may be included within this taxon, one of which (goodfellowi) was elevated to specific rank (Anderson, 1997). Anderson et al. (1987) considered nattereri a subspecies of boliviensis but Woods (1993) recognized it as a species without comment.
