Common Name:Black-tailed Deermouse
Type Locality:México, Oaxaca, below Pluma Hidalgo, 3000 ft (914 m).
Distribution:Pacific slopes of the Sierra Madre del Sur of Oaxaca, México.
Status:IUCN – Vulnerable.
Comments:P. megalops species group. Although named as a subspecies of P. megalops, Huckaby (1980) substantiated the specific status and range of melanurus. Banded karyotype described by Smith et al. (1986).
