SPECIES Neotoma (Neotoma) goldmani
Author: | Merriam, 1903. | Citation: | Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash., 16: 48. | Common Name: | Goldman’s Woodrat | Type Locality: | México, Coahuila, Saltillo, 5000 ft (1524 m). | Distribution: | Mexican Plateau, 1160-2320 m, from SE Chihuahua to S San Luis Potosí and N Querétaro, México. | Status: | IUCN – Lower Risk (lc). | Comments: | Subgenus Neotoma, floridana species group (sensu Edwards and Bradley, 2002b). Chomosomal formula viewed as primitive for the genus (Harris and McCullough, 1988; Lee and Elder, 1977). Species group affinity variously interpreted, associated with N. lepida (Goldman, 1910) or N. albigula (Rainey and Baker, 1955); cytochrome b evaluations decidedly relate N. goldmani to the N. albigula N. floridana clade (Edwards et al., 2001; Edwards and Bradley, 2002b). See Hrachovy et al. (1996, Mammalian Species, 545). |
