Common Name:False Oryzomys
Type Locality:Brazil, Minas Gerais State, near Lagoa Santa.
Distribution:EC Bolivia, NE Argentina (Chaco, Formosa, Sante Fe; Pardiñas et al., in litt.), and W Paraguay, to E Brazil (Pernambuco).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Formerly classified as Oryzomys incertae sedis (Cabrera, 1961) until genus diagnosed by Hershkovitz (1962). Lectotype designated, synonymy presented, karyotype and distribution discussed by Voss and Myers (1991).
