Author:J. A. Allen and Chapman, 1893.
Citation:Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 5: 209.

Type Locality:Trinidad, Victoria County, Princes Town.

Comments:Arranged by Hershkovitz (1944) as one of many subspecies of N. squamipes. Barros et al. (1992) reinstated palmipes to species based on its inordinately low diploid number (2n = 16-17) as compared to other populations of Nectomys, which range from 2n = 38 to 59 (Barros et al., 1992; Gardner and Patton, 1976). Linares (1998) retained palmipes as a subspecies of N. squamipes; junior status of tatei identified by Voss et al. (2001).
