Viewed as closely related to Oxymycterus by Reig (1987), but electrophoretic data reveal Lenoxus as cladistically removed from Oxymycterus proper (Patton et al., 1989) and gene sequences indicate closer relationship to a clade including Blarinomys, Brucepattersonius, Kunsia, and Scapteromys (D’Elía, 2003; D’Elía et al., 2003; Smith and Patton, 1999). |
