Described as related to A. sanctipaulensis, A. lindberghi, and A. azarae (Hershkovitz, 1998), but gene-sequence data suggest closer affinity to A. cursor A. montensis (Geise et al., 2001). Status with respect to A. paranaensis and to A. reigi, which are morphologically very similar and have the same diploid number (Christoff et al., 2000; González et al., 1998), should be reviewed and their morphological definition and distributional limits as three separate species verified. |
