Pierre-Simon Laplace (1749 - 1827)

Laplace is known as one of the most influential scientists in history because of his critical view of his discipline. Known as the "lawgiver of French science," Laplace contributed technically and philosophically to mathematics, as well as helping to develop the modern discipline of mathematical physics.
