Franklin's autobiography, Mémoires De La Vie Privée, was published in Paris in 1791, a year after his death. The first English translation was published in 1793. This book is known today as The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, and was originally written for Franklin's son William. Franklin's book includes observations into Philadelphia society and popular philosophic and religous theories. The first five chapters were written in England in 1771, picked up again in Paris in 1784, and finished in the United States in 1788. The book ends in 1757 when Franklin was 51 years old.
