Bucknell Geology in Utah - Spring Break 2008

Why spend Spring Break sweating in Florida when you can spend that time in Utah with your geology classmates, faculty and Geology students from another major university?
Sixteen Bucknell Geology students and faculty spent a week in the vicinity of Arches National Park where they camped, hiked and explored the diverse geologic features and landscapes of Arches, the Book Cliffs, Henry mountains and San Rafael Swell.
Along the way, they met up with a group from Purdue University and spent much of that time learning fundamental field skills including geologic mapping, rock identification and measuring geologic sections. Using their observations and side trips to sites like the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry, students were exposed to the geologic history of the region and were better able to place this part of North America within the framework of regional geologic and tectonic events.
