In 1984, the Physical Plant building was renamed the Walter C. Geiger Physical Plant, in honor of Walter Geiger, Class of 1934, and Director of the Physical Plant from 1946 to 1978.

The physical plant building was a jointure of the old Heating and Lighting Plant, completed in 1902 (to the left in the photograph) and the Service Building, erected in 1939 (to the right in the photograph with the garage doors).
