emorial Stadium

In 1960, improvements were completed with facilities for football, baseball, track, and rifle practice. In 1961-62, new lighting was installed and, in 1962-63, a new two-story press box was built ( not visible in this 1960 photograph). The stadium was also used for other activities such as the annual review and awards ceremonies of the Bucknell R.O.T.C.

The university baseball field was located at the north end of the stadium next to Route 15. The baseball diamond is visible in this photograph. Next to the diamond is an extension of the oval track.which was used for certain track events. By 1965, the road and four sidewalks in front of the Mathewson Memorial Gate had been removed. The Gate is at the crescent to the far right of the curve of the oval part of the track at the open end of Memorial Stadium. A parking lot was located between the practice fields next to the open end of the stadium and Coleman Hall. This parking lot was separated from Coleman Hall by a lawn, and it was connected to Coleman Hall by several paths, two of which are visible in the photograph. Only faculty and staff members were allowed to park in the spaces nearest to Coleman Hall.
