SPECIES Pseudomys hermannsburgensis

Author:Waite, 1896.
Citation:Rept. Horn Sci. Exped. Cent. Aust., Zool., 2: 405.
Common Name:Sandy Inland Pseudomys
Type Locality:Australia, Northern Territory, George Gill Range (as restricted by lectotype designation; see Mahoney and Richardson, 1988:176).
Distribution:Australia; arid parts of Western Australia, South Australia, Northern Territory, W Queensland, W New South Wales, and NW Victoria (Breed, 1995c:604; Robinson et al., 2000; Watts and Aslin, 1981:190; see also the range retraction by Ellis, 1995b).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Electrophoretic data (Baverstock et al., 1981) and spermatozoal morphology (Breed, 1983) clustered P. hermannsburgensis with most other species in Pseudomys, but phallic morphology interpreted by Lidicker and Brylski (1987) indicated closer affinity to species they placed in Leggadina. Digestive tract traits in relation to diet documented by Murray et al. (1994). Reviewed by Breed (1995c).
