Common Name:Elegant Margaretamys
Type Locality:Indonesia, C Sulawesi, Gunung Nokilalaki, 6500 ft (1980 m).
Distribution:Originally recorded only from 1600-2285 m in montane rain forest on Gunung Nokilalaki, but a specimen (AMNH 267763) was obtained from farther south in the Mamasa Area (02o56'S/119o22'E) of C Sulawesi. Probably occurs on mountains elsewhere in C core of the island.
Status:IUCN – Vulnerable.
Comments:The largest in body size of the three species and the most squirrel-like in habitus.
