Type Locality:"San José Island, Gulf of California, Mexico" [Baja California del Sur, Mexico].
Distribution:Known only from the type locality.
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).
Comments:An insular allospecies closely related to bachmani (Chapman and Ceballos, 1990); a subspecies of bachmani according to Gureev (1964:171). Karyotype reported by Cervantes et al. (1996b). Reviewed by Thomas and Best (1994a, Mammalian Species, 464).
