Common Name:Mexican Hairy Dwarf Porcupine
Type Locality:Mexico, in the mountains.
Distribution:San Luis Potosi and Yucatan (Mexico) to W Panama, to 3,000 m (Emmons and Feer, 1997).
Status:CITES – Appendix III (Honduras); IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Emmons and Feer (1997:222) indicated that the small forms from Chiriquí, Panama had been recognized as a distinct species (laenatus).
