Common Name:Bahia Porcupine
Type Locality:Brazil, Bahía, Salvador.
Distribution:Atlantic coastal region SE Brazil.
Status:Unknown. IUCN – Lower Risk (lc) as S. insidiosus, Extinct as S. pallidus.
Comments:Reviewed by Voss and Angermann (1997), who included pallidus. Husson (1978) placed in Sphiggurus and included melanurus but see Voss and Angermann (1997). Karyotype has 2n=62 and FN=76 (Lima, 1994).
