Common Name:Dassie Rat
Type Locality:South Africa, "Mountains toward mouth of Orange River".
Distribution:W South Africa, Namibia, to SW Angola.
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc). Common.
Comments:Fifteen subspecies have been named but no attempt has been made to assess their validity or geographic limits, but see Roberts (1951). Karyotype has 2n=56 and FN=112 (George, 1980).
