Dao (1966) described nghialoensis as a subspecies of M. platythrix, which at the time embraced the Indochinese shortridgei. Chromosomal composition of Thai samples, which demonstrate a complex polymorphism, reported by Gropp et al. (1973). Evolutionary history extends back to the late Pliocene of Thailand, based on isolated molars recovered from cave sediments (Chaimanee, 1998). |
