Common Name:Tawny-bellied Cotton Rat
Type Locality:México, Zacatecas State, Zacatecas.
Distribution:SE Arizona, WC New Mexico, and SW Texas (see Stangl, 1992), USA, south through interior México to Guanajuato and NW Michoacán.
Status:IUCN – Extinct as S. f. goldmani, otherwise Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Subgenus Sigmodon, S. fulviventer species group. Sister species to S. leucotis according to phylogenetic interpretation of cytochrome b data (Peppers and Bradley, 2000; Peppers et al., 2002). See Baker and Shump (1978, Mammalian Species, 94).
