The Maslennica Party

(The Gateway Gala)

Loading the Bliny

On Friday, February 27, 1996 the Russian Club along with the young men and women of the Russian Gateway sponsored Bucknell's first celebration of Maslennica. Here we see the chef, Ken Ayers, and his able assistant, Luke, preparing the evening repast.

The Atmosphere

The solemnity of the occasion was evident in many of the guests. The chef's assistant, Luke, donned his special Maslennica hat for the event. Kara Perlot spent much of the evening in deep contemplation. Not even the delicious bliny, pirozhki, pickled herring and cucumbers tempted them away from their reveries and somber mood. Angelica and Ken ignored each other all night.

"But that is the essence of Hegel! The inevitable transcendency of non-being in the face of the 'being-in-time.' He ancitipated the subjectivity of negation of Nietsche by decades. So tell me, where would Dostoevsky have come from had there been no Hegel?" The Russian Russia Mafia is always easy to spot: their shyness in front of cameras and the gaggle of beauties that always surrounds them. (That's Professor Yastremski inkognito behind the hand.)
