Changing Your Blackboard Password (Non-Bucknell Users Only)

Please note that starting with our installation of Blackboard Version 8 in summer 2008, the Blackboard password for all Bucknell users is now your "Bucknell Password". In other words, to log in to Blackboard, you use the same password you use to log in to the network, check your email, etc. Changing your password within Blackboard doesn't actually change anything. You need to change your Bucknell/File Services password, since Blackboard checks against that password when authenticating you.

If you have a "guest" account on Blackboard and are not officially a member of the Bucknell community, then you don't have a "Bucknell" password, and you should have been given an initial password when your account was created. Only people with "guest" accounts can change their password, following these instructions:
  1. Go to http://www.bb.bucknell.edu (opens in new window), and click on the Login Button button.

  2. Type in your user name and password in the appropriate fields, and click on the Login button:

  3. On the opening My Blackboard page, in the top-left corner, you should see a Tools box with a Personal Information link. Click on that link:

  4. Blackboard will take you to a Personal Information page. Click on the Change Password link, which should be the second from the top:

  5. Type your new password into the Password and Verify Password windows, making sure to type the exact same string of characters into both boxes. (Please note that passwords are case-sensitive, so, for example, MyPassword would be different from mypassword.) Then click the Submit button to send your new password to the server:

  6. Blackboard will confirm that your password has been changed. Click on the My Blackboard tab at the top of the page to return to the opening Blackboard screen:

  7. To confirm that you changed your password successfully, you can click on the Logout button on the top-right of the main page and try to log back in with your new password:
