Overview
The SRI is committed to developing teaching, research, and outreach in a variety of areas. In the broadest sense, there are several areas of interest:

  • Natural History
  • Conservation
  • Restoration
  • Planning and Management

Featured Project
Watershed Assessment—For twenty years (?) the CBF has been issuing annual reports on the ecological health of the Chesapeake Bay. The BUEC is collaborating with the Heartland Susquehanna River Heartland Coalition for Environmental Studies (SRHCES) to develop a state of the river report for the Susquehanna. This report could be used as a comparative measure of ecological health for the river. We envision this as something that could be produced over the next three to five years and reproduced every five to six years.

The first phase of this project is to build a geospatial database of environmental research on the river that has been done over the past hundred years. Efforts are underway to develop a web-based information portal by which persons can submit data or information relevant to the river health assessment. Once the database is assembled, we will work with the SRHCES scientists to identify parameters that will be used tracking and the appropriate reaches to use in the development of this assessment.
