Type Locality:South Africa, Western Cape Prov., "Inhab. Cape of Good Hope".
Distribution:South Africa to perhaps S Angola: coastal waters from Cape Town to 17°09'S (Namibia).
Status:CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Data Deficient.
Comments:Type specimen was brought to the Royal College of Surgeons by Captain Haviside, at about the same time that Captain Heaviside sold a collection of anatomical specimens to the Royal College. Gray confused the two (Rice 1998:101).
