Common Name:White-sided Jackrabbit
Type Locality:"Mexico"; restricted by Nelson (1909:122) to southern end of Mexican Tableland.
Distribution:C Oaxaca (Mexico) north discontinuously to SW New Mexico (USA).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).
Comments:Subgenus Proeulagus (Gureev, 1964), or Macrotolagus (Averianov, 1998). Includes gaillardi and mexicanus; see Anderson and Gaunt (1962) and Hall (1981:328-330); but see also Gureev (1964:192, 195). Range allopatric with L. alleni, to which it is probably related. Karyotype reported by Gonzalez and Cervantes (1996). Reviewed by Best and Henry (1993b, Mammalian Species, 442).
