Common Name:Large-eared Hutia
Type Locality:Cuba, Las Villas Prov., Archipiélago de Sabana, Cayo Fragoso (22o41’N, 79o27’W).
Distribution:Known only from the type locality.
Status:U.S. ESA – Endangered as Capromys auritus; IUCN – Critically Endangered.
Comments:This form is known only from mangrove habitats along the edge of canals passing across Cayo Fragoso. This form constructs nests that are very similar to those of angelcabrerai. Karyotype has 2n=36 (Hemandez and Sanchez, 1987).
