Common Name:Cuvier’s Spiny-rat
Type Locality:French Guiana, Saul.
Distribution:French Guiana, Surinam, Guyana, Brazil west along both sides of the Amazon River to N Peru.
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Placed in the monotypic cuvieri group by Patton (1987). Considered closely related to guyannensis by Gardner and Emmons (1984), but see Voss et al. (2001) for review of morphological differentiation. Karyotype has 2n=28 and FN=46-48 (Maia and Langguth, 1993; Patton et al. 2000; Reig et al., 1979).
