Common Name:Northern Luzon Phloeomys
Type Locality:Philippines, Luzon Isl.
Distribution:Greater Luzon Faunal Region. Endemic to N and C Luzon; widespread in primary and secondary tropical forests from sea level to at least 2000 m (see Oliver et al. [1993] and Heaney et al. [1998], and references cited therein).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).
Comments:Standard karyotype (2n = 40, FN = 60) described by Jotterand-Bellomo and Schauenberg, 1988, as P. cumingi); a minimum of two Robertsonian and three non-Robertsonian events separate karyotypes of the two Phloeomys (Rickart and Musser, 1993). This species is becoming common in zoos.
