Common Name:Budin’s Akodont
Type Locality:Argentina, Jujuy Prov., Leon, 1500 m.
Distribution:Mountains of NW Argentina and SC Bolivia (see Emmons, 1997).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Type species of Hypsimys, which Cabrera (1961), Reig (1987), and Smith and Patton (1999) recognized as a subgenus of Akodon; listed as a genus by Galliari et al. (1996) without comment. Karyotype reported by Vitullo et al. (1986) and biochemical divergence by Apfelbaum and Reig (1989).
