Common Name:Knox Jones’s Pocket Gopher.
Type Locality:USA, Texas, Winkler Co., 4.1 mi. (6.6 km) N and 5.1 mi. (8.2 km) E Kermit.
Distribution:W Texas and SE New Mexico (USA).
Comments:Considered a subspecies of bursarius by Hall (1981) and Patton (1993) but a distinct species by Bradley et al. (1991) and Block and Zimmerman (1991). Baker and David (1989) described a hybrid zone with partial reproductive isolation between knoxjonesi and bursarius major. Phylogenetic position within Geomys established by Jolley et al. (2000).
