GENUS Strigocuscus

Author:Gray, 1861.
Actual Date:1862
Citation:Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1861: 319.
Type Species:Cuscus celebensis Gray, 1858.
Comments:Not distinguished from Phalanger by McKenna and Bell (1997), but when Flannery et al. (1987) resurrected this genus for S. celebensis, and provisionally for S. gymnotis, they gave evidence that it is sister-group to Trichosurus. Norris (1994) retained gymnotis in Phalanger and thus showed that it belongs in Phalangerini.
