On New Guinea, found mainly above 1200 m. | Status: | IUCN – Lower Risk (lc); CITES – Appendix II; but "common" in New Guinea (Flannery, 1990). | Comments: | Feiler (1978a) included atrimaculatus in this species, but G. G. George (1979:98) placed it in rufoniger. Usually includes papuensis and kraemeri, but these were separated by Flannery (1994a). |
