Common Name:Kinkajou
Type Locality:"Er ist, der Sage nach, auf den Gebirgen in Jamaica einheimisch"; restricted by Thomas (1902b) to "Surinam". Ford and Hoffmann (1988) and Husson (1978) discussed the confusion over the name and type locality.
Distribution:Belize, Bolivia, Brazil (Mato Grosso), Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Mexico (S Tamaulipas and Guerrero and possibly Michoacan), Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Surinam, Venezuela.
Status:CITES – Appendix III (Hondurus); IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Reviewed by Cabrera (1957), Husson (1978), and Ford and Hoffmann (1988). Revised by Kortlucke (1973) and Hernández-Camacho (1977). Synonyms allocated according to Ford and Hoffmann (1988).
