Type Locality:"America", restricted to "Mexico", by Thomas (1911a:136), further restricted by J. A. Allen (1919b:345) to "State of Vera Cruz".
Distribution:Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, USA (Texas, Arizona), Uruguay, Venezuela.
Status:CITES – Appendix I; U. S. ESA – Endangered; IUCN – Endangered as L. p. albescens, otherwise Least Concern.
Comments:Placed in Leopardus by J. A. Allen (1919b), Weigel (1961), Hemmer (1978), and Kratochvíl (1982c). Reviewed by Murray and Gardner (1997). Synonyms allocated according to Cabrera (1958b), Hall (1981), and Murray and Gardner (1997).
