Yates and Schmidly (1978, Mammalian Species No. 105) and Yates (in Wilson and Ruff, 1999) listed sixteen subspecies. Gureev (1979:254) listed aereus and inflatus as distinct species without comment. Hall (1981:72) included aereus and inflatus in aquaticus. Karyotype has 2n = 34, FN = 64 (Yates and Schmidly, 1975). |
