S. vagrans complex (Carraway, 1990) or "dusky shrew complex" (Demboski and Cook, 2001). Includes obscurus and durangae, which were previously included in vagrans and saussurei respectively; see Hennings and Hoffmann (1977) and map in Junge and Hoffmann (1981); other synonyms follow van Zyll de Jong (1983a) and George and Smith (1991).
