Author:de Winton, 1898.
Citation:Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., ser. 7, 1: 155.
Common Name:Corsican Hare

Distribution:Italy from the Abruzzo Mtns southward; Sicily; introduced into Corsica no later than 16th Century (Vigne, 1988).
Status:Not Evaluated; likely to be listed as one of the IUCN threatened categories upon evaluation, due to probable reduction in numbers and range due to over-hunting and introduction of L. europeaus (Palacios et al., 1989; Pierpaoli et al., 1999).
Comments:Subgenus probably Eulagos. Formerly included in capensis or europaeus; see Ellerman and Morrison-Scott (1951) and Petter (1961a); but see also Palacios et al. (1989) and Pierpaoli et al. (1999) who provided evidence of their specific distinctness.
