Common Name:Simon’s Spiny-rat
Type Locality:Peru, Dept. Junín, Río Perené (240 m).
Distribution:Western Amazon Basin from S Colombia to N Bolivia and W Brazil.
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc) as P. simonsi and P. hendeei.
Comments:Placed in simonsi group by Patton (1987). Gardner and Emmons (1984) included hendeei; considered a separate species by Eisenberg and Redford (1999). Karyotype has 2n=32 and FN=58 (Gardner and Emmons, 1984; Patton and Gardner, 1972).
