Type Locality:"El Paso, [El Paso Co.], Texas [USA]."
Distribution:New Mexico and W Texas (USA) to Coahuila, Chihuahua, and Durango (Mexico).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Most divergent species of the genus (Bolles, 1981), and probable primitive sister-species to remainder (Hafner, 1981). Reviewed by Best et al. (1990b, Mammalian Species No. 365).
