Distribution:Jalisco (Mexico) north to SE Arizona (USA).
Status:IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Comments:Subgenus Sciurus (Hall, 1981:431). Includes chiricahuae and apache (Hall, 1981:431; Lee and Hoffmeister, 1963). Reviewed by Best (1995d, Mammalian Species No. 492).
