Comments: I grew up in the flatlands, and was the case with the majority of the poor kids, didn't have the luxury of cable tv or legos to keep my mind limber. We played in the red dirt and watched for signs in creekbeds that might tell us there was a better life to come.
It was always rumored that Sam rode the polo ponies West of Norman, Oklahoma and that he frequented "Denco's," a now-defunct local eatery. Although I didn't come to terms with the fact that I couldn't be anything but an actor until a few years ago, I had read most of his early works by the age of 15, and got into all kinds of trouble for ditching school trying to track him down at Denco's when there was a "Sam Sighting." He's the only playwright I've found that can capture the dread and emptiness and overall magic (in its truest sense) of the West, and should be commended for that.
I don't want to try to make this little comment into a swan song about Sam (or about myself, for that matter), but other than the Rolling Stones, he's been the greatest inspiration I have ever known to get out there and "do it." I'm now a half-fleged actor living in NY, writing a bit here and there in an attempt to kick at the stalls of mainstream theatre and give what I can to show folks the other half of the world.
So give him my regards, if you will, and my thanks for making the tracks in the road a bit easier to follow.

Vaya con Angeles,

NP

If you have any hints please let me know. I think the plays are perfectly suitable for Dutch secondary school pupils to read
