Example: Assume that a 7-month old girl has just learned to crawl. She is in the living room pulling the hair of her big sister. She crawls 3 m due North and picks up a nickel and pops it into her mouth. She then crawls 2 m 20° S of W to the dog's food dish, where she picks up a piece of dog food and pops it into her mouth. She then sees one of the dogs and crawls 4 m 30° E of S where she grabs the dog's tail and stuffs it into her mouth. How far is she now from her sister who hasn't moved from her original position? |
