Video Demonstration
5 minutes 26 seconds running time - Clip 4

Video Problem #1, Lecture #18: For the following sequence of processes on an ideal monatomic gas (γ = 5/3), draw a p-V diagram and determine Q, W and ΔUEtherm) for each process. Assume that the number of moles of gas is constant throughout. (a) Starting with a temperature of 300 K, a volume of 0.1 m3, and a pressure of 1.0 × 105 N/m2, heat the gas up at constant volume to a final temperature of 600 K. (b) Now, do an isothermal expansion of the gas to 3 times its original volume. (c) Then, compress the gas adiabatically back to its initial volume. (d) Finally cool the gas at constant volume back to its original temperature of 300 K.

N.B: The complete problem takes approximately twenty minutes to watch, so it has been broken up into clips. This is clip four of four.
