Video Problem #2, Lecture #15: For kicks, you put some water in a Coke® jar and stretch a balloon over the opening to seal it. You then put the whole thing in a microwave and marvel as the balloon blows up (i.e., gets larger, not explodes). Assume that the initial volume of the gas in the bottle and balloon is 70 ml, and the initial temperature is 25° C. Let’s assume that the pressure remains constant throughout this process, but the temperature of the gas increases as the water boils, and the volume of the gas in the bottle and balloon increases to 150 ml. By what factor has the number of moles of gas molecules changed in this process? Where has the increase in the number of moles come from?
