The
wet conditions caught us by surprise after having experienced one of the
driest early golf seasons in recent memory. Our construction project at
holes 5, 6, and 9 has suffered accordingly, and unfortunately will extend
into next year. All reasonable efforts are being made to minimize the impact
of that necessity, but we ask for your patience. Hopefully we will experience
the benefits of improved drainage sufficiently to erase the memory of our
inconvenience.
I had the pleasure
of attending our 2002 version of the Annual Year End Dinner, where we
enjoyed good company, entertainment, an excellent meal, and libation.
The highlight of the evening was the honoring of Jim Apple for his support
and participation in the administration of our Club over many years. Jim
is one of the finest examples of how important volunteerism is to us.
When you see Jim, personally shake his hand and thank him.
Sadly, this
past month also marked the death of Bob Millward after having suffered
a heart attack earlier in the year. Bob was best known for his outgoing,
bubbly personality. His legacy lives on in the form of our annual Invitational
Tournament. We owe him a large debt of gratitude and we will miss him.
The election
of board members rapidly approaches. Kay Fairchild and Cindy Skelton have
opted not to seek re-election after having served for three years. Both
have chaired very active committees and certainly deserve our expression
of appreciation. Both the Green Committee and Memorial Committee have
made significant contributions to the organization of their respective
responsibilities. Again, take the time to thank them personally for their
dedication and performance.
Certainly, many
others deserve a thank you. Our Club is uniquely gifted with an inordinate
number of high quality volunteers and staff.
See you when
the sun shines!
Good Golfing,
Gary D. Fry,
President
