Churches of Sunbury:

First Baptist Church:
In 1842 Deacon John Budd, Brother J. H. Worrall, Peter Burns and Reverand J. D. Jones organized the First Baptist Church of Sunbury.  This initial congregation had 81 members and on October 30, 1842, eighteen people were baptized and added to the tally.
For the first few years the congregation alternated between meeting in private homes and meeting in the Court House, until finally in 1848 a lot was purchased and services were held in a church building.  In 1872 a new lot was bought and in 1874 a brick church was constructed.  Later the brick church became a parsonage and a new church and Sunday school were dedicated in November of 1908.
